"Overjoyed" by Stevie Wonder with a touch of Brasil 🇧🇷 ⛱️
Grooving on a classical repertoire challenge #28: Dukas's "Alla Gitana" (1909). I think this piece was originally written for vocal etude, but became a repertoire for alto sax, clarinet, and ...flute. The piece sounds simple, but the phrasings are very tricky.

"O Bêbado e a Equilibrista" by João Bosco sung by Elis Regina
For Elis REgina's birthday 🎂 "O Bêbado e a Equilibrista" from "Essa Mulher (1979)" is one of her best songs, which was written by João Bosco, who is also one ...of my favorites. I played this with deep respect for Brazil. I hope I didn't offend any Brasileiros. This song's title means "The Drunk and the Tightrope Walker," but its hidden message was the anti-military regime. Show More

"Dindi" by Antônio Carlos Jobim
For Jobim's birthday: "Dindi" became a jazz standard since Frank Sinatra sang it in English (1967), but it was originally written for Sylvia Telles (1959 "Amor de Gente Moça" then ...a different arrangement in 1960 "Amor em Hi-Fi", which was one of my early Brasilian collections). I transcribed the original changes. Jobim's harmony is so special. Unlike the standard changes, the original contains minor-Major 7th cords where dominant is expected and Locrian chords with natural 13th in the melody at the bridge. The rules we learned in school don't apply. Hard to improvise, but it's so exciting to play!
